The Trilogy Comes Full Circle but Leaves an Open Door
Ask any Hallmark fan which installment of the trilogy they liked most and responses will vary. All three were SO GOOD that it's really hard to pick a favorite. Our Facebook group conducted an opinion poll on the matter, and most voters tapped Legacy as their top choice, followed by the first one, with Unveiled ending up in last place.
We'll try another poll in this blog post to see if the ratings fall the same way.
In the first movie, Avery finds Arianna's portrait, only to later realize the veil in the portrait is the same Italian veil she bought from the antique store with her friends. The second installment traces the veil's origins to Paolo's family in Italy. In this final story, we learn the veil was brought to the United States by Angela, Arianna's granddaughter, and Angela is Gia's mother! (Gia, as you recall is Nick's grandmother). This news means Tracy and Emma are cousins by marriage!
Now that all three ladies have found true love while in possession of the veil, they gift the veil back to Gia, who passes it to her daughter, Isabella (Nick's mom).
It's interesting that Nick mentions having three sisters, one of whom is in the restaurant business with him while the other two are in Italy. Will Hallmark extend the story of the magical veil by way of these three sisters? It seems oddly convenient that two of the sisters would be in Italy near Paolo's family. Is this a hint of something to come, or is Hallmark just toying with us? Only time will tell!
Which Wedding Veil Location Is Your Favorite?
Our trilogy starts in Boston, crosses the ocean to Italy, and finishes in New York. Which of these settings appeal to you the most? Share your thoughts in the comments!
One thread that weaves its way throughout all three movies is history. Avery, Emma, and Tracy live in the art world, but in different capacities. Avery is a museum curator; Emma analyzes art and its history and teaches; and Tracy sells art at an auction house. All of their careers involve history, and Tracy's might be the most fascinating to observe, since so many of her references are to pieces of Americana.
One Deviation from Hallmark's Brand
If you've watched the Hallmark Channel for a while, you know an important part of their brand is to keep romance squeaky clean. Handholding, hugs, and one kiss is all we get (two, if we're lucky), and that's how fans like it. The kiss could be a little more passionate, especially since we often have to wait until the end for it, but no hint of hanky-panky has been present or even suggested in these movies, until recently.
Since Wonya Lucas took over as CEO of Crown Media, she has seemed determined to modernize romance in ways that aren't appreciated. For example, in Boyfriends of Christmas Past, we flashback to when Lauren vacationed with one of her exes. Such a thing would have never happened under past Hallmark leadership. In The Wedding Veil Legacy, Tracy admits she and Finn had been planning to move in together, and had she followed him to California, they would have shacked up before getting married.
This is not okay. In "classic" Hallmark movies, any couple under the same roof have been in separate bedrooms with other adults present on the premises. We used to be able to trust Hallmark to keep entertainment clean, but now it seems to be following cues from our morally decaying culture and pivoting to glorify sin.
